Athlos Academy of St. Cloud

Application and Enrollment Policy and Process

Thank you for your interest in Athlos Academy of St. Cloud. We are a tuition-free, public school located in St. Cloud, Minnesota serving students in grades K-8.

Enrollment for Next School Year (2019/2020)

The enrollment window for the 2019-2020 school year opens on January 1 2019. We will hold a lottery on February 25, 2019 if more applications are received than seats are available. Enrollment notifications will be sent shortly after the lottery date. A link to apply will be made available once the enrollment window opens.

Current School Year Enrollment (2018-2019)

The lottery for the 2018-2019 school year was held in March 2018. We still have limited number of seats available for this school year. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) for the 2018-2019 school year, you can fill out an application for enrollment.

The enrollment form makes your child eligible for a seat according to the school’s policy and state law (explained below); it does not guarantee your child a seat.

Offers will be extended based on available seats. Those who are not extended an enrollment offer will be added to our wait list.

Enrollment Admissions Policy and Process

Athlos Academy of St. Cloud holds an annual enrollment period.  If there are more applicants than available seats during the enrollment period, a lottery will be held in early March.  All applicants will be sorted into a random order at that time.

Students must be 5 years old by September 1 of the year in which they start kindergarten and 6 years old by September 1 of the year in which they start first grade.

Athlos Academy of St. Cloud follows Federal and Minnesota Department of Education regulations, guidelines, and practices regarding enrollment of all students.  The school shall not discriminate in its admissions or enrollment policies based on race, color, religion, sex, national or ethnic origin, or special needs as defined in IDEIA.

Enrollment Preference

Seats will be offered first to students who qualify for enrollment preference under Minn. Stat. § 124E.11. Enrollment preference will be given as follows:

  1. First to siblings of enrolled pupils and foster children of that pupil’s parent/guardian(s); and
  2. Second to children of the school’s full-time staff

Once enrollment preference has been addressed, seats will be offered to students based on the lottery.

For applications received after the lottery, students will be placed on the wait list for their grade level based on the date their application was submitted.

Parents will be notified by email, phone call, and/or U.S. mail if their child is offered a seat.  It is the parent or guardians’ responsibility to make sure all contact information is correct and accurate.

Parents will have five (5) business days from the date of notification (time-stamp, call log, or postmark) to respond to an offer by email, phone, in person, or via U.S. mail.

When all seats are accepted for a given grade level, the remaining students will be placed on a wait list.  Students on the wait list may be offered a seat during the school year if one becomes available in the student’s current grade level.  Seats will be offered to students in the order in which they fall according to the most recent lottery. If a student does not accept a position, s/he will not forfeit his/her position on the wait list, but the current position shall be offered to the next student on the list. Athlos Academy of St. Cloud may consider lack of response to an offer of enrollment a decline of the offer.

If a student is offered a seat after the start of the school year, parents will have five (5) business days. Timelines for response will be no less than five (5) business days and no more than ten (10) business days. Wait listed students are reentered into the lottery each year.
